TOUR DISCOVERY GEORGIA
Georgia is a collection of cultures, religions, with fascinating landscapes with a thousand-year history. A hospitable population, always smiling, proud of their land. A country to be discovered not only as natural beauties and monuments, but also the Culinary aspect and tasting Georgian wine.
1st day: Departure for Georgia. Arrival at Tbilisi International Airport. Handling of customs formalities, reception and transfer to the hotel. Hotel accommodation. Overnight at the hotel in Tbilisi.
2nd day: Tbilisi. After breakfast, visit the fascinating capital of Georgia. Today Tbilisi is an important industrial, commercial and socio-cultural center. Strategically located at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, along the historic "Silk Road". We will visit the most important attractions of the city: the church of Metekhi (XIII century), the Fortress of Narikala (IV century), one of the oldest fortifications in the city, the Sulphurous Baths, the Synagogue, the Sioni Cathedral and the Basilica of Anchiskhati (6th century). Later we will visit the Archaeological Treasure of the National Museum of Georgia. Overnight at the hotel in Tbilisi.
3rd day: Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Tbilisi (210 km) Breakfast at the hotel, departure for Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, a "holy city", where the Orthodox Church is located. There are many ancient structures, dating back to 1994 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jvari Monastery (6th century), located on the hill, with a magnificent panoramic view of the city and Svetiskhoveli Cathedral (11th century). Christ's tunic is said to be buried there. The city of Gori, the heart of the Kartli region. Stop at the Stalin Museum. The city of Uplistsikhe located near Gori is considered the most famous attraction an ancient settlement of the Caucasus dating back to the first millennium BC. It’s heart of pagan civilization and very active shopping center on the great Silk Road. Return to Tblisi. Overnight at the hotel.
4th day: Tbilisi - Alaverdi - Gremi - Kvareli - Tsinandali - Tbilisi (310 km) Breakfast at the hotel, departure for the Kakheti Region, Georgia's famous wine area, famous for good wine and great hospitality. Visit to the Cathedral of Alaverdi, with frescoes from the 11th-17th centuries. The monastery built by Joseb Alaverdeli, one of the Thirteen Syrian Fathers who came from Antioch. Continue to Gremi, it was the royal residence and one of the cities on the Silk Road. Continuation to the wine cellar inside a natural cave, tasting of some local wines paired with typical local dishes. Visit of the Tsinandali museum, which was the residence of the Dukes of Georgia, with a very beautiful English garden, with a museum and a cellar inside that belonged to Prince Chavchavadze. Return to Tblisi. Overnight.
5th day: Tbilisi - Paravani - Poka - Khertvisi - Vardzia - Akhaltsikhe (270 km) Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the Javakheti region, passing through the Tsalka, Paravani and Sagamo lakes. Visit of the Poka monastery, dedicated to Saint Nino famous for having brought Christianity to Georgia by starting the Georgian church. Stop on Georgia's largest lake - Paravani. Along the way stop at the fortress of Khertvisi (10th century). Continuation to visit the rock city of Vardzia (XII century), both religious and secular city, representing Golden Age of Georgia. Arrival in Akhaltsikhe. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
6th day: Akhaltsikhe - Sapara - Borjomi - Gudauri (300 km) Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Monastery of Sapara (XII century) with its very suggestive landscape, in the wooded mountains, inside the church there are magnificent well-preserved frescoes. Continue to the prestigious spa town of Borjomi located on the slope of the Little Caucasus. Stop at Borjomi national park to try mineral waters directly from the sources. Departure for the beautiful landscapes of the Great Caucasus mountains. Arrival in Gudauri. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
7th day: Gudauri - Stepantsminda - Gergeti - Ananuri - Tbilisi (190 km) Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Stepantsminda, situated in a wonderful position, with the view from the snowy peak of Mount Kazbegi (5047 m), with the church of Gergeti. A walk during one and a half hours (difference in altitude of 500 m) Arrival at the Church of the Trinity, the view is worth seeing! After the visit, return to Tbilisi. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. During the journey visit the Ananuri Complex (17th century). Arrival in Tiblisi. Overnight at the hotel. Optional: As an alternative to the walk it is possible to rent an off-road vehicle with 4x4 traction to get to Gergeti - cost of 4X4 about € 30.00
8th day: Departure. Transfer to Tbilisi airport and departure.
